Sculpture Theft at Forest Hills
By Othemts - 8/29/08 - 8:04 am
Thieves have stolen several sculptures from Forest Hills Cemetery, possibly to sell for scrap metal. This includes a work by South End sculptor Khalil Gibran, a wonderful man I once met on a sculpture tour at Forest Hills (he passed away in April). This is heartbreaking for those who love Forest Hills and its great sculpture collection.

"South End sculptor Khalil Gibran" ?
Khalil Gibran was a sculptor who "passed away in April"?
You mean "April 1931", right?
The famous Khalil Gibran was primarily a poet, though the Wikipedia page does state (without elaborating) that he was also a sculptor, and also that he lived in the South End. So it could be the same person, but I'd be surprised if you'd actually met him in person recently :-)
Khalil Gibran - Two Of Them
The Khalil Gibran referenced is the son of the writer/poet.

Ahhh
That makes more sense then, thanks
Cousin, not son
The Khalil Gibran who died this year was a cousin of the author, not his son.

He sculpted the bas-relief plaque in honor of the senior Khalil Gibran that is in the park at Copley Square, facing the Library. My dad met him as well, and owned a camera tripod that he had designed.
