College student gets a lesson in life for $450

Namely, if a stranger - even a well dressed one - comes up to you and says he needs $450 in cash for car repairs, and he says he'll give you a check for $500 for your troubles, and you agree to get the money for him from an ATM, the check is going to bounce. The Huntington News reports on the incident - along with an unrelated one involving a guy who, upon being rudely interrupted in his joyous trek down a hall stealing whiteboards off people's doors, punched the student who dared stop him twice in the face and then, when the guy was down, kicked him in the head for good measure.

A plug-in power chord? I bet she totally melts faces. I say it's time to blow doors down to get it back.
Sorry. Channeling my inner Jack Black this morning when I read that.
A cool item
Read on for one about a Northeastern cop who noticed a bike was attached to a rack with a really thin cord, so he asked to have a security camera zoom in on it and, sure enough, the bike was stolen, but they were able to catch the guy.
wrong way
The guy stealing the boards was the one who did the punching...
Think you need to re-read the whiteboard story
The student who was stealing the whiteboards did the punching and kicking, NOT the guy who discovered him.
Otherwise, this website is hilarious. My favorite is the graduate student who left his laptop in the library at 10 p.m. and said it wasn't there when he went back at noon the next day.
Fixed
Thanks! Maybe I need to update my caffeine bolus.
A Fun Read
I got a kick out of reading the report, too. At first you think these kids are a bunch of idiots. But, then I got envious of them for being so young, naive, and oblivious (or just stoned).
Smahten up! Whaddya think this is, a hick town?
Oh, how I fondly remember the Dick MacGuyver bits on WBCN.
Life's lessons
Ma and Dad are shelling out how much for their education? Sounds like these kids need a lesson in common sense.
Looks like he wasnt the only

"SUCKS TO BU
A BU student reported he had $600 stolen from him near 44 Cummington St. at about 1 p.m. on Nov. 23. The student said a man approached him seeking to find help for towing his vehicle back. The suspect then told the student he would give him a personal check for $600 in exchange for $600 cash. The student agreed to cash the check, and called BUPD after he found out it was fraudulent."

$ for car repairs
When I went to orientation at BU in 2002, they warned us against this trick, people are still working this angle? And students are still falling for it?
