Enjoy those temps now: We've just gone to French Toast Alert Level Blue

Boston French Toast Alert: Blue

The forecast for Saturday night/early Sunday morning: Light snow accumulation possible.

Might want to check up on those egg, milk and bread supplies, just in case. And if Harvey Leonard has a huge grin tonight, well, it might be more than just a dusting.

You forgot one

I think this would fall under elevated:

Local media outlet makes mention of the Blizzard of '78.

Me and the missus use her b-day (12/13) as the cutoff for an under over bet on when we will hear the first mention of the horrors of 31 years ago - so far the over is holding firm - but that could change in an instant if that grin on Harvey's face gets any bigger.

Oh - down there

Noticed you have it in the last section - I don't know - it seems that any mention of snow around here is accompanied by some reference to the blizzard of '78 as in (in succession of forecast severity):

It won't be the blizzard of '78 but it's going to snow. don't be a wimp and get to school and work - in my day we walked to school in the blizzard of '78. Uphill. Both ways. In bare feet!

This could be as bad as the blizzard of '78 - bring the kids inside after you get the milk, eggs and TP

Oh my God, this could be worse than the blizzard of '78 - get Grandma and Grandpa over here just in case and hide the women and children in the basement - oh the humanity!!

The Globe forecast

The Globe has a story about this forecast:

"..."The first snow flakes of the year in Boston are expected on Saturday night," said Bill Simpson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Taunton. "Minor accumulation on grassy surfaces is expected." ...

What was that stuff on October 19th?

That never happened

OK, 18th. I was going by

OK, 18th. I was going by memory, which is still better than the Globe guy's.

Getting literal

I'm pretty sure it snowed in January, so they certainly aren't the first flakes of the "year". So, I'll have to guess he was using "year" when he really meant "season". That would make the October event a Fall snow event and out-of-season...making this weekend the first snow of the season.

:)

It's still Fall.

It's still Fall.

Technicalities

Around here, the "meteorological year" begins in December, and "meteorological winter" is Dec-Feb.

You're talking about a meteorologist

And in meteorology, winter begins on December 1st.

Well

Explanation from a non-Wikipedia source.

I ran the Bay State Marathon

I ran the Bay State Marathon in Lowell that morning. That certainly is a day I cannot forget. My first marathon and it goes and snows a few hours later.

French Toast Alert

I remember as a kid corner stores holding milk and bread for families with young kids. I also remember the rush to stores and the panic buying (that still exists) after '78. Today instead of bread and milk the favorites seem to be Pepsi and Devil Dogs!
To hell with French toast, I'm going to the packie!!

I think the snow has been

I think the snow has been canceled

You should just cut severe down to a single criteria; Shelby Scott sighted.
