Fire does $100,000 in damage to South Boston church

A church worker lighting incense accidentally caused a fire this morning at St. Peter's Lithuanian Church, 45 Flaherty Way, the Boston Fire Department reports.

By the time firefighters arrived, shortly before noon, they found a room to the left of the main alter fully engulfed in flames. Two stained-glass windows cracked from the fire, but firefighters were able to knock the fire down quickly and keep the rest from damage, the department says, adding fans were brought in to disperse the smoke from the top of the church.

One clergy member was taken to a local hospital for evaulation; one firefighter suffered a shoulder injury.
