Life without parole for killing a man because they felt like it

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Demetrius Wardsworth , 21, for the cold-blooded killing of a man sitting on a Roxbury stoop minding his own business, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
Wardsworth's alleged accomplice, Shawn "Shanks" Daughtry, 29, goes on trial sometime next year for the death of Urel Duncan and the wounding of his friend as they sat talking at 60-62 Codman Park on the evening of Sept. 20, 2007.
Prosecutors charge Wardsworth and Daughtry didn't know their victims and didn't care - they simply wanted to off somebody at the New Academy Estates housing development. Neither of the victims had any connection to gangs or violence, the DA's office says.
Wardsworth's conviction on a first-degree murder charge means that, barring a successful appeal, he will spend the rest of his life behind bars without possibility of parole.

And you sure that's not the maximum sentence?
That's the mandatory sentence

That's the mandatory sentence for first-degree murder. There are a few offenses that carry potential life terms, but all the others carry parole eligibility.

Academy, unfortunately, has never had the reputation of being the safest place either.... This is just sad to hear something like this
