Menino on DTX: Burritos, not Buicks

By way of starting a new Downtown Crossing thread on UH, Menino opened a burrito joint and reaffirmed commitment to DTX as a pedestrian mall.

The Globe story also has an amusing bit about what features of DTX the mayor's walking tour somehow missed.

Good news!

There are now five Bolocos in the Financial District, by my count. The new one on School Street, unlike the others, is open "late"; until 8:00 PM. Plus, free wi-fi.

DTX is back!

Getting kind of pervasive, aren't they?

When do they merge with the coffee chain to become Bolunkin?

DTX should be a fully free

DTX should be a fully free wifi zone ...

Too bad there's no audio

with the story so we could hear the Mayor say "Boloco".

DTX: no there there?

Maybe something besides stores? The stores there are at a competitive disadvantage already.

oy....

Is it a sign of how bad things are that the opening of a burrito place in DTX has been elevated to mayoral ribbon cutting level???

I read the Globe piece and found myself wondering, some of the quoted folks kept referring to a brighter day for DTX. But no one explained how we'll get there. Do they know something I don't?

I liked the idea they

I liked the idea they mentioned of raising the roadway to curb level. Shows they're thinking about making it work for pedestrians.

little things can make a difference

You're right -- that was worth noting. Right now Washington feels more like a closed-off street than a pedestrian mall.

Please stop calling boloco a burrito joint.

Any place that sells Nutella

Any place that sells Nutella milkshakes deserves a better title.

Yeah, you're right

I see from the Web site that it's really an INSPIRED burrito joint.

A burrito joint is what you make of it

Says "INSPIRED" right there on their own Web site.

I'm going to borrow that gem for my resume.
