Robo Calls: Good political strategy?

My call-waiting beeps and my caller id says it is

617-227-2081
K Galligan

who I do not know. I let it go to voice mail. The message left on my answering machine reveals it is political robo call by Doug Bennett who, by the way, is 100% certain that he will be the next city councilor-at-large.

I'm not opposed to Doug's candidacy, heck I don't even know him, I'm just against robo calls made under someone else's name.

Sam Yoon's robo called me yesterday (waking me up, since I was at home trying to sleep a cold into submission). My caller ID said "Error". I figured that it was possible that the battery needed replacement, but I was also tickled at the idea that my phone had discovered politics.

K. Galligan is Doug Bennett's wife so maybe the phone bill is in her name and that's why this name popped up. But since this blog poster is against robocalls being made under other's names, I'm against cowards who post anonymously under no name.

I'm voting for Bennett.

And I am opposed to people who post anonymously while complaining about other people posting anonymously - hypocrite is thy name. Count me in.

But seriously, you seem to know them. Are you interested in commenting on the race? Who's running? Who is the best candidate? Why?

PS. Apparently, there is one person only who posts under the name, anonymous on UHUB. Others are 'anon'.

So what's your full name and address, shirley?

What's your connection with the Doug Bennett campaign?

Blame me: The software that runs this site lets you block certain names from being used by actual people. Some wiseguy noticed I'd failed to include "Anonymous" on the list and so selected "Anonymous" as his user name. I had to admire his nerdy thinking and so let him keep that name. He's a real person, I've exchanged e-mail with him and every time you see "Anonymous" here, it's that same person. Truly anonymous users are typically listed as "anon" (they could no longer post as "anonymous" because the system now reserves that for the guy who started this discussion).

as a political nut and avid watcher of campaign expenditures, i have never seen doug spend money on robo calls. perhaps his rich father is paying for them? is that against the law?

Since the calls are being made from a family member's address, I think they've acquired an auto-dialer that delivers the recorded message when "someone" picks-up (as opposed to hiring a cmopany that will do it for you.) I don't know how the list of phone numbers are secured and provided to the machine.

I'm sure the use of the equipment and phone list has monetary value that needs to be accounted for by the campaign.

After 5 robo-calls in a week, Doug Bennett lost our consideration for a vote and has even encouraged us to campaign for others.
