You would think that most people don't either know the difference between assistant, associate, full professor etc. or give a rat's ass. Since even untenured assistant professors are professors, isn't introducing him as a professor at Harvard sufficient?
I think it was said in a joking manner, folks. As in "Here's my husband, he's nothing much now but someday he's going to have tenure." Not a huge yuk, but still a pleasant little bit of repartee.
