We score some of the last eggs at Roche Bros.
By adamg on Sat, 12/19/2009 - 6:05pm
By 5:20 p.m., it was so bad people were desperately grabbing at cartons of Egg Beaters. The store still had plenty of bread and milk.

so that's what you look like!
so that's what you look like!
Yes, I had to break cover for this breaking news
Also, I would be remiss if I didn't note that the top photo was taken by Universal Hub's art director, the Kidlet.
I think the BPD wants you
Crazed white guy in a Sox cap with a beard? Didn't he hold up a bunch of banks?
Wrong guy, I swear
The bank robber wore a scally cap!
No Sovereigns
And there are no Sovereigns in Rozzie Square near Adam's house - or is that why you have a secret vendetta against Sovereign?
I'll give you four tix to skate in Fenway Park for those eggs!
No, I love Sovereign
Because they took over the ugliest bank branch on all of Centre Street in West Roxbury (yes, even uglier than the post-apocalyptic bomb shelter that is the People's Federal Savings Bank) and made it slightly less ugly. So I bear them no ill will for not serving my 'hood. Well, not much.
eeka wins.
eeka wins.
I blame UH
And the near universal acceptance/monitoring of the FTLA by all the locals that matter.
Oh, the Humanity!
I think we deserve more...
As my mother has just pointed out, Harvey Leonard isn't working because it's a weekend...All of the other newcasters are talking about this being a "history maker" in the DC area. Surely that bumps us up at least half a level? (Maybe a pretty mauve color?)
Heh, yeah, if we were in Washington
And while it was pretty impressive to see an empty egg case at the West Roxbury Roche Bros. this evening, I dunno, right here in Boston, we've yet to get any Blizzard of '78 comparisons. In fact, I watched Pete Bouchard say that while this would certainly be an impressive storm, he wouldn't rate it among the top 10 for Boston (and then Channel 7 went back to one of the 37 reporters they have stationed at salt sheds around the state - they do love them some salt sheds; they even had Victoria Block toss a couple of shovels' worth of salt, um, back onto the salt pile she dug them up from).
Stop & Shop in Hyde Park
I was there around 5:30 and they only had broken eggs in cartons. It must be partially due to French Toast alert. There was lots of bread and milk -- I don't think they know that eggs are a precious storm commodity too. No French Toast for me this time :(
Oooooh
Looks like there's plenty of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls. Those would be nice tomorrow morning.
Good timing?
I was at Shaws Prudential around 1pm and it was pretty much dead. Plenty of milk, eggs, bread and everything else for the snowbound homeowner. And no-line checkout to top it off!Guess no one went grocery shopping until the afternoon?
Truly awesome. People were
Truly awesome. People were mental today.
Add tires to milk, eggs, & bread
When I went to Town Fair Tire in Everett today to get some replacement rims, the lunatics were stacked five deep at the counter desperate to get new tires. The manager said that it always got crazy like this ahead of a big storm.
Who knew?
Maybe you should add tires to milk, eggs, & bread.
This is worse than the H1N1 shortage
It would be a shame if people’s cholesterol levels were not properly maintained over the weekend. God forbid they have to eat a bowl of oatmeal instead.
yum
Well, oatmeal will keep for months in your cupboard. It's the fresh stuff that the 'panic buyers' stock up on.
Now, back to my omelette :)

This article was mentioned on Howie Carr on Monday afternoon, but he didn't mention the site by name, only that it was some guy showing the devastation in the egg section at Roche Bros.
