The worst space saver in the history of Southie

Look, I get it. I understand that it's tradition to stick an old lawn chair or trash barrel into a parking space that you dug out and stake your claim to that space until the next snow storm. So what? The fact is, that it's illegal!and police are hired to enforce the law. Digging out a parking space gives you absolutely no legal right to park in it afterward any more than the next person on the scene. I had to take an elderly person to see a doctor in the city. The only parking space near the doctor's office had some lawn chair in it. I knew I was in for it when I put the chair on the sidewalk so I could help the old timer out of the car across the snow bank. Within a minute some wacko with a kitchen knife was headed towards my car to slash my tires. I had already pulled out my cell phone and dialed 911 before he let loose with a stream of profanity. Being a very large man, I don't think he was really prepared to attack me, knife or not, but the police arrested him within a minute. He was charged with attempted assault with a deadly weapon, but kept yelling about how I had parked in his space, and this is what you are supposed to do when that happens. The elderly person I was dropping off nearly had a heart attack while this went on and wound up hospitalized the next day. Space holders should be prosecuted.
