Apps with subway data now arriving
By adamg - 10/13/10 - 9:32 am
The MBTA reports the release of four mobile apps that now include arrival data for the Red, Blue and Orange lines:
- CatchtheT for iPhone
- BostonBusMap for Android
- MBTAinfo for Mobile Web (for any mobile browser)
- Excursion Boston for iPhone
The MBTA apps page will list more apps as they're released (as well as existing bus and trip-planning apps).
T officials says Green Line arrival info is likely several years away.

Several years away, or
two weeks after I move away from the Green Line, whichever comes first.
Excursion only has subway
Excursion only has subway schedules, not real-time tracking.
MBTAinfo.com looks good!
Easy interface, includes subway and bus, and allows you to create a favorites list. I've tried many of the bus trackers, and so far, this is the only one I've seen that has favorites.
Nice work who ever programmed it!
I disagree. NextBus.com shows
I disagree. NextBus.com shows an actual map, so you can see at a glance where the buses are on a given route. Sadly it is still bus-only ATM but I hope it'll cover the heavy rail soon.
But it doesn't save favorite
But it doesn't save favorite routes which was the only point of my compliment.
Nextbus is great, but I've had to bookmark all of my most common routes because the interface is a bit awkward (IMO). With what exactly do you disagree? I said nothing about it being better than NextBus, or anything negative about NextBus. So where's the need for disagreement?
Thanks!
I'm the developer of mbtainfo.com. I'm glad you like the Favorites feature!
(I actually wasn't sure if it would be clear how to use it; as you saw, you just click on the black star on a stop page and it turns yellow and then on the home page you see a Favorites section with all the stops you've starred.)
If you've got any more comments or questions, fire away. :)
One of the best things the T has ever done
It's hard to think of an app that has improved my quality of life more than these MBTA real time trackers. Every day, I wait til a bus is 5 minutes away, stroll to the bus stop, and it's there within a minute. No more freezing for a half hour or running at the sound of squealing brakes, or trying to guess when the next batch of 3 buses in a row will emerge from the top of the nearby hill.
This month I bought a T pass for the first time in over a year, and NextBus is a big reason why.
BostonBusMap
I really recommend BostonBusMap for Android users. Much better than the other MBTA Android app I tried, AnyStop. It has realtime bus tracking that actually works! I've even watched a bus and its tracking icon move in sync around the Fresh Pond rotaries.
Awesome
BostonBusMap is the best. Watching the little bus icons move along the route is so much fun I want to keep tracking the buses after I get on one.
