Back in the 50s, anyone eating sandwich that had apple or boursin in it would be considered queer or a pinko commie. Wow, remeber the 50s! Segragation, Polio - post war isolation!

I was pretty nonplussed by this place. A Sinatra poster on the wall [or whatever] doesn't make up for the fact that our drinks were college candy sweet, the music a jumbled mess of radio r&b. Eastern Standard does the cocktail revival better. Even Lucky's does it better, without even really trying menu-wise.

I've never been much of a fan of places that go to great lengths to pretend to be from the 50s (or the 60s or any other decade). I much prefer the real thing.

There are plenty of real diners with real waitresses out there. You know, the ones who say, "What can I get for ya, honey?" Even better if her name is Flo.
