Bike accident victim looking for help filling in the details

Last Tuesday, Jesse Kirdahy-Scalia (@victorycig on Twitter) was struck by a car in Brighton on Strathmore Road. At the time of the accident, clockworkted posted this information here on Universal Hub asking if anyone had any more details. It mentions the driver of a silver Camry talking on a cellphone and then hitting a cyclist wearing a helmet and riding a blue bicycle.

It turns out Jesse was that cyclist and he woke up in the hospital 2 days later with no memory of what happened and a broken femur and ankle. He saw my Tweet asking the Boston Police on Twitter for more info and is hoping to find out if anyone has any knowledge of the events that Tuesday that they can give him.

Does anyone know anything?

"Person on a cell phone"

Somebody saw that the driver had a cell phone, but was unable to determine the sex/ethnicity/height/build/age of the driver? That must have been one HELL of a big cell phone.

Hope they catch him or her (probably the latter AM I RIGHT FELLAS)

yes. now's not the time to be politically correct

If you're worried about called being sexist if it's a female driver, racist if it appears to be a person who is not white as the driven snow, sizist if it's an overweight person, anti-senior-citizen if it appeared to be an older person, then issue your tip anonymously. And stop worrying about being offensive. I can't think of anything more offensive than a hit and run driver.

I know of two cyclists being hit by drivers over the years in that same area. The streets are narrow and it's dangerous. And people drive like assholes.

are you kidding...?

because i honestly can't tell from your tone.

but most studies back up the facts that more men get into car accidents than women, and actually more men talk on their cell phones without using a hands-free device than women do.

so all your theories about the wimmins yakking on the phone and being crappy drivers doesn't really hold up in the real world.

Stakeout Strathmore

If somebody is a sufficient asshat to hit and run, they are probably asshat enough to drive that roadway again soon.

Also, check with autobody shops about the damage.

Hit-and-run?

I didn't mean to suggest this was a hit-and-run (as I don't have any evidence one way or the other on the matter). All I know is that he was hit, blacked out, woke up 2 days later, and doesn't remember anything that happened that day. It's not clear to me whether he's been in contact with a police investigator, the driver who struck him, or anyone else from that day.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression with my post. I just want to recommend people don't assume facts not in evidence.

injured bicyclist on strathmore/sutherland

according to the police report the driver was a white male, 56. please let's not engage in superficial chat about race, gender, etc. let's get the facts and help the injured party get this sorted.

I appreciate that attitude.

I appreciate that attitude. I'll write a post today with some details I'm aware of to clarify the story and ask again for witnesses.

I live in one of the

I live in one of the apartment buildings that overlooks that corner and was at home when I heard the crash. By the time I looked out the window, the car was stopped (with a spiderwebbed windshield and a dent from what I assume was the victim's helmet in the roof), and the victim - Jesse, I now know - on the ground about five feet away, on the corner. Within seconds pedestrians had run to his aid, and two fire trucks, three cop cars and two ambulances were there in minutes.

He seemed conscious for a few minutes - was making noises, anyway - then got still just before the first emergency personnel arrived. They stabilized his neck and leg and got him into an ambulance and away. The cops lingered for about 45 minutes after that, taking pictures of the scene, asking questions - they got a cell phone picture of the accident from a passerby, seemingly at the point of impact, though I'm not sure - and the driver of the car was there throughout, talking on his phone and trying to arrange a tow for his car. A tow truck showed up for him about five minutes after the cops left with Jesse's bike.

Not sure of any more details he would like, but that's all I know.

Thanks

I passed it on to him on Twitter. Thanks for your description!
