Body recovered from Fort Point Channel

UPDATE: Body identified as that of Gene Losik.
A Boston Police boat recovered a body from the channel, near the Children's Museum, around 10 a.m. today. The body was first sighted in the harbor near Rowes Wharf, but winds and currents pushed it under the Northern Avenue and Moakley bridges and into Fort Point Channel.
The Northern Avenue bridge was opened to let police and Coast Guard boats into the channel to assist firefighters, themselves on scene in a Zodiac inflatable boat.

I wonder if this could be Gene Losik, the young man who vanished in February from the Marriott Long Wharf. While I hope he is still alive, if this is him, it will bring tragic closure for his family, but it will answer so many questions this poor family must have...

I would be very surprised if it is him. It's unlikely a body would still be floating after a long hot summer like we had. I would very much like, though, for answers to Gene's disappearance questions.

yes, i understand that it would be unusual for the body to not have surfaced sooner, but doesn't it depend on when it was thrown into the water? who's to say if someone is killed how long the killers hold onto the body? and,if this is indeed someone who went missing in february, perhaps the body was caught on something...i hate to be graphic especially when talking about someone's life lost...no offense to the family...whoever it is, may his/her soul find peace and may the family find answers...

I would actually be surprised if this WASN'T Gene. Anyone know how far where the body was found is from the hotel Gene disappeared from?
I hope for the family's sake that it is him.
Not at all far
Take a look at this map. Losik was last seen outside the Marriott Long Wharf, which is on the wharf sticking out just below where it says "Christopher Columbus Park" (in fact, he was last seen on the park side of the hotel). The body this morning was spotted just off Rowes Wharf, where the marker is (and then the wind and current pushed it into Fort Point Channel (the channel where you see "Barking Crab").
not that unusual
for a body to be entangled in something and stay down, under a wharf or because of clothing caught on rocks or whatever, for weeks or months, then break free.
If it really is that poor kid, he wasn't necessarily floating all that time.

i've been searching all morning for an update on this story, too...i'd imagine efforts to identify the body were underway yesterday and i don't see an update anywhere. very sad situation for the family...

If Paul's post is legitimate, I am terribly sorry for Gene's family. What an awful conclusion to his story...
Identity?
I haven't seen it anywhere in the press today that this person has been identified as Gene or anyone else. Does anyone know?

no prob. been following the story since he went missing and found your page in the process. i google him every couple months and by coincidence did so last night; another comment by someone named paul raised my curiosity when he stated he spoke with the family and it was gene... couldn't find anything in the news until tonight. i hope they have more of an article about it than the obituary; i know there's probably not much to say but a lot of people donated money and time and interest and i think they and the public are owed a little more information... aka were there signs of trauma or was a toxicology report able to be done? why did caitlyn mcgovern disapper from the news and stories about gene in the past few months? what's with his mothers strange comments on facebook after she was notified of his death? my condolences to the family -- just curious about these things.
