Just yesterday, I had a pedestrian try to blast through a crosswalk on red, right through me, as I was halfway across the street. Having to dodge bicyclists who are running reds even after the cars have stopped doing so happens on a daily basis if you walk during popular bike-commuter times. Maybe I should begin stopping in the crosswalk and requiring them to come to a complete stop. Just because the motorists are assholes and the roads are hostile to bicyclists doesn't mean bicyclists can risk maiming pedestrians.

A few months back I had a whole group of bikers during a Critical Mass ride do this to me in Harvard Sq. I was practical hit by a good 15+ bikes. Two of them even had the audacity to swerve for me and curse at me. I love these causes and the promotion of biking but don't be douches out there. There are already enough of those one the roads.

I assume you were crossing WITH the light - not against the red hand thingy?

If not, then get your jaywalking arse back on the curb and nobody will get hurt.

I am so sick and tired of bicyclists disregarding any traffic rules and feeling that they are entitled. They are all rude, arrogent and completely self absorbed. I wish that the police would enforce the laws of the road and issue tickets for the reckless disregard of the laws.

You forgot to mention all bicycles should be registered and bicyclists should have licenses.

Dont forget taxes. All cyclists are homeless unemployed hippies and thus dont pay taxes. They even go out of their way to build their bike from home grown bamboo (what home....) to avoid sales taxes.

While it's true that a lot of bicyclists do disregard traffic rules and feel that they're entitled to do so, there are plenty of bicyclists (myself included) who don't fall into that category. It's agreed that the police could do a better job of enforcing the rules of the road and that bicyclists who do violate the laws must be made to realize that they, too are subject to the rules of the road, but don't make the mistake of thinking that all bicyclists are scofflaws.

I'm sensing a pattern here ... hmmm. You know, it just might be that motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists all come from the same population of poorly trained, law-ignorant people subject to zero enforcement that comprises those who received their licenses in MA?

When you have this many people who received their licenses without ever having to pass a comprehensive test of road rules or driving skills, police departments that are totally disinterested in enforcement, and insurance companies that are not allowed to blacklist the few people who do have bad records, you get lots of stupid drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

I thought the people with horrendous driving records just didn't register or insure their cars. The penalties for driving unregistered and without a valid license are minimal, and not a lot of people seem to do jail time or anything, so why bother? I know soooo many people who've been hit by people driving uninsured unregistered cars with no license.
