Boston has a supermarket strike after all

While Stop & Shop workers were busy ratifying a new contract this weekend, workers at Shaw's produce warehouse in Methuen were going out on strike, Channel 4 reports. That could mean you'll see only wilted lettuce at your local Shaw's and Star Market - assuming you cross the picket lines the workers could be putting up.

So what you're saying is...

That could mean you'll see only wilted lettuce at your local Shaw's and Star Market...

So, what you're saying is that customers won't notice any difference?

*zing*

My sentiments exactly

beat me to it! If they want to make a shock statement they could have fresh produce and sparkling clean stores!

I was a little bit irked that a recent visit to a Stop and Shop involved my hearing all of the non-cashier employees stand around and loudly discuss, on the floor of the market in front of customers, how they were about to go on strike, which union boss said what, and what manager did what. A guy would have a cart of oranges, stack them in the produce display at a rate of about 1 orange every two minutes, shouting two aisles over to another guy with a cart of shitty dented half-rotten-but-waxed-up-like-a-'57-Chevy-at-an-antique-car-show apples, who was stacking them up at a rate of about 1 apple every three minutes, griping about this crap

I'm sure it was an intentional tactic too, to make sure their customers knew all about the labor dispute. And I'll bet that they were in the right. But I really don't want to see and hear that shit while I'm shopping for food.

The vote to strike was 228 to 8.

And the PR flack for Shaw's says: "...some union members have led their co-workers into a strike..."

Who knew that Baghdad Bob got picked up on waivers by Shaw's?

Food quality at Shaw's Supermarkets.

There's also the issue of the quality of foods available at the Shaw's Supermarkets. For example, excessive salt in many foods.
