Channel 4 reports you can look down through the sidewalk to the train tracks below - where trains have been ordered to slow down to minimize vibrations on the decrepit span.
Why is it always the transit that has to suffer while the trucks and cars that use the bridge can move like always?
Like when the BU bridge intersection was also falling, the B trains had to move at 3mph....but the buses and trucks were free to bounce around like always.
the bridge because if not, it'll be some time before MassDOT can schedule repairs.
Our big investment in public infrastructure seems timely. It took only a few decades to realize the consequences of trying to shrink government down small enough to drown it in a bathtub; problems like bridge collapses in Greenwich CT and Minneapolis St Paul.
Spending is about priorities - traffic lights, street lights, bridge repair, libraries, foreign wars, nation building, F35 fighter planes, food stamps, teachers, police, firemen, unemployment benefits, social security, health insurance for people over 65 - and taxing is about collecting enough money to pay for priorities.
I've been able to look through the seams on that bridge since at least 1995. Glad to see the "We'll all be killed!!!!!!!!!" crowd has taken an interest.
According to the story, yeah, the hole you look through isn't the issue - it's the giant hole on the underside that you can't see that's got the engineers all fretful.

You're telling me that
You're telling me that cutting taxes and slashing government is not the solution?
What's your solution
What's your solution to bridges we use and are in need of repair because they are unsafe?
Cutting taxes in order to reduce spending does not seem to work. Witness Legacy of Bush Policies drive record deficits (graph)

Totally not news

And the hunk of concrete that fell on the tracks.
