A word of advice to parents of children at this school: Don't bother writing letters or trying to raise money to save the school. I am good friends with a parent of the Our Lady of Lourdes School in JP and let me tell you it is nothing but heartache and tears when you get involved in a lost cause like this. The arrogance of Church leaders is so frustrating and whatever reason they are giving for closing the school is a lie. I think that this archdiocese has made a decision to get out of the business of educating young people for whatever reason and there are plenty of them you'll come up with. Each of them is partially true. I think a large part of it is that it's too much trouble and the properties are too valuable to account for the hassle.
i am a parent and long time resident of the st marks parrish and it is discusting the way that the pope john paul academy is being run. no consideration has been giving to the students, parents, or the teachers. the decisions are made in some back office and we are told too bad but there is nithing you can do. i beg to differ we can and will fight. the closing of dorchester central makes no sense. they say we are operating at only 52% of our capacity. they are using classrooms that no longer exist(they are fudging the numbers) some of the classrooms they say are empty are in fact used for esl classes(5 classrooms) one is now the school office, one is the teachers lounge. the real reason is they just do not want to spend the money to renovate our building when they promised to break ground on the renovations in 2010. dorchester central is the most diverse and one of the last neighborhood schools 60% of our families either live in the neighborhood or are part of our parrish none of the other campuses can claim those nunbers. the academy has 50 million dollars promised from doners but they allowed these doners to delay giving those funds for another 5 years. why can't they ask for 15 million now and do what they promised renovate our building then they will see the enrollment increase. even without the renovations our school has seen an increase in the enrollment so what is the problem?
