Chelsea Dem gets in the race to replace Galluccio

Cambridge News Weekly (yeah, that's a new one for me, too) reports that progressive Democrat and small shopowner Michael Albano is now running for the seat left vacant when Anthony Galluccio resigned on account of being in jail.

Other candidates include attorney Dan Hill of Charlestown, Galluccio's former chief of staff Sal DiDomenico, Cambridge City Councilor Marjorie Decker and attorney and Charlie Flaherty son Tim Flaherty. They're competing in April 13 primary to get into a May 11 final election just in time to start all over again for the regular primary and election this fall.

Albano's Pedigree

Jillian Fennimore mentioned Albano at the end of her article on Dennis Benzan (D) entering the race. Fennimore notes that Albano is the son of former State Senator Sal Albano.

So, you know. Legacy candidate.

EDIT: Anyone hoping to hear that he's related to the late, great Captain Lou... sorry to disappoint. I have no idea if he is or isn't, and would guess he's not.

Dammit, there goes my vote

That's the FIRST thing I thought of, Captain Lou. It's not too uncommon of a surname. I still think the candidates should wrestle for it.

State Senator Sal Albano was

State Senator Sal Albano was a State Senator from another district that only intersects our district in two precincts in Somerville. That was also a long time ago and was not a post that lasted for decades. Michael Albano on the other hand has made a career outside of his fathers shadow and has been a neighbor of mine in Chelsea for quite a while now and I can assure you most people around here think of Michael and not Sal when they hear the name Albano. To dismiss him as a "legacy candidate" is a great disservice.

After reading through your blog (Foxed: It is a good blog) I would have expected better from someone who seems to be interested in this sort of thing.

Apologies

I'm sorry. I meant no disservice. Was more pointing out that his father held a similar political office himself. I don't automatically think legacy candidates are bad per se.

I can see how people might be leery of legacy candidates, though. Flippant word choice on my part.

PS: No relation to Captain

PS:

No relation to Captain Lou... ;)

Elections

Politics in general seems to have heated up over the past couple of years given everything going on in the world. Should be an interesting year.
