City to require training for armed guards

The city council today approved a measure that will require armed guards to undergo training by the Boston Police Department.

City Councilors Rob Consalvo and Maureen Feeney said the measure would enhance public-safety response during major incidents. Consalvo pointed to the way private security guards took out a shooter at the Holocaust Museum in Washington as an example of the need for such training for the "hundreds of guards" who now walk around Boston with guns.
