Writing in the Boston Business Journal, Pat Lawlor reveals that not all the waiters with Italian accents were born in Italy. Lawlor details how he got one waiter to admit the sordid truth - he's from Winthrop - basically by hectoring the poor guy through an entire meal.

Next they'll be telling us
Next they'll be telling us that Chico wasn't Italian.
Was his last name...
"Zarilli" when in character and Connaughton off-hours.
Does this mean...?
All those people at Pollo Campero aren't from Guatemala? Those guys at Chacarero aren't all from Chile? The scandal!!
That is awesome.
That is awesome.
Anna's Taqueria
Was started by an Asian fellow. Whose name isnt' even Anna. And whose sister started Boca Grande....and that's not even HER name either!
no way u gotta be kidding me
so this asian guy started anna's and then hired a bunch of mexicans to make the food?
Anna's and other taquerias

Since Anna's is modeled on San Francisco-style burrito shops, it's not necessarily "wrong" that it was founded by a San Francisco native. However, I doubt that it's staffed by Mexicans in any case - pretty much all of the taquerias around Boston are staffed by Salvadorans and Guatemalans. Exceptions I know of that are Mexican-owned and operated: Angela's (not really a taqueria but more of a restaurant) in East Boston, Taqueria Mexico in Waltham, and Taqueria la Mexicana in Somerville.
There's not really that big a Mexican community in Boston as it is - most of our Latin American come from elsewhere in Central and South America. But if "Mexican" food is what sells that's what they're going to offer.
If you want real Mexican food made by real Mexicans
You need to come to Roslindale: Both Yucatan Tacos on Centre Street and Romano's in Roslindale Square (home of the famous winding dinner) are owned and staffed by Mexicans.
That must be a hell of a
That must be a hell of a morning commute.
Taqueria Mexico is excellent
They give you lots of food, really authentic by all accounts, and they have an extensive menu. I recommend it highly to anyone looking for great Mexican cuisine.
that is too funny but i'm upset about this at the same time
that is just ridiculous. Makes you wonder if it was grandmas old recipe form the old country or some guy from lynn microwaving some spaghettios.
Consider this
Any waiter sprouting a fauxtalian accent in the North End 1) better be doing a really good job of it and 2)be ready to both understand and speak fluent Italian at a moment's notice.
Hopefully.....
...you can taste the difference!
Pablo?
According to Rex Trailer, Pablo was Irish.
My childhood memories are now but a sham.
