Cops really love it when you ask if they went to college

Boston Police report arresting a man on charges he broke into a tow truck in a failed effort to get his impounded car out of an Allston tow lot early this morning.

Police say William Ashmore, 36, initially demanded officers order Frank's Towing, 55 Brighton Ave. to release his car. Officers said he had to show them proof he had paid a fee for having his car towed. Instead of supplying proof, police say:

[T]he individual began verbally disparaging and disrespecting the officers, stating, "I went to college ... what did you do?"

Police say Ashmore and officers went round and round on the point until a tow-lot employee piped up and said they had Ashmore on tape trying to break into a tow truck and that he had made threats against the worker.

At that point, police say, Ashmore was introduced to the back of a cruiser for a ride down to D-14 for booking on a charge of breaking and entering a motor vehicle.

Innocent, etc.

...and always happy about that when I read of of cars being towed, hit by the Green Line, stuck in traffic when some doofus ignores the NO TRUCKS signs on Memorial Drive in Cambridge.

Even happier when I read the story of that Boston jerk getting tagged for B&E. Remember to tell the judge that you graduated from college.

We should introduce this guy to the nutjob who hangs around the Green Line telling everyone who will listen that higher education is a scam. I once made the mistake of making eye contact with him and he asked me if my college degree prepared me to run a concentration camp.

as that line came out of the mouth of our collitch ejicated goof. I can almost hear the reply....

"Well..I'd ask for my money back"

"Obviously college didn't teach you to read no parking signs"

Add your own..it's fun to make fun of the stupid who think they're smarter than everyone else!

but they probably did so in part on your (and my) dime, Willie (ask a friend about a Mr. Quinn if you don't know why this might be true). That might not be "college smart", but it seems pretty damn smart to me.

Frank's Towing trucks frequently race each other down Brighton Ave into Allston after dropping off tows at their lot.

Looks like I'm not the only one to have noticed their drivers are insane:

Also, how curious that the police report makes no mention of offices viewing the video in question?

We messed with a tow truck company at BC in 92'- they were merciless bastards. We used to call them for tows - flat tire- won't start- whatever- and then watch them prowl around the parking lot looking for a car that wasn't there. Our little payback. "Frank's towing" sounds real familiar. Wonder if they were operating back then.

Sounds like your average UHub poster. Obviously superior to any mere policeman.

...not getting you the respect that you (think you) deserve?

Do BHCC grads sneer at you as you pull their espresso shots?

Seriously, where does your inferiority complex come from?

I have a problem with bpdnews.com. Since it's written by the police department, it (unsurprisingly) always takes the cops' side.

In this example, it talks about the suspect being more and more hostile, but doesn't say anything about the demeanor of the police. In my experience, even if cops don't do anything that's technically wrong, they still make situations much more hostile, in an effort to get a rise out of people so they'll misbehave and do something arrestable. It also doesn't explicitly say that the suspect didn't pay for the tow.

bpdnews.com is a great example of why we need independent, rather than state-controlled, media.

Come one. That's an unfair characterization of major media in this country. They are all over the big issues- like Palin's Daughter dancing with the stars.

I was referring to bpdnews.com as state-controlled media, not the major newspapers and TV stations.

...the Frank's Towing guys are opportunistic vultures.

I've had an unfortunate encounter with them once, and while it wasn't as bad as this story, I can totally see how they can get someone this ticked off.

I'd love to find out the other side of this story. This version comes from BPD News, which as noted by another commenter isn't exactly an unbiased reporter. The tow-ee in this case obviously wasn't taking the situation very well, but what about the cops or the tow truck drivers? If the Frank's people are anything like the guys I dealt with, I doubt they were doing anything to calm things down, either.

But "vultures" was a perfect descriptive to describe the company that was doing the towing when I went to BC in the early 90's. BC parking back then was a problem- as I bet it is now- and I know rank breakers of parking rules should be towed- but these guys would do stuff like start towing cars on Sunday at the crack of dawn- when the lot was half empty- and visiting friends or students without stickers on their cars- cause they couldn't get them- would find their cars towed from near empty lots all the time. I mean it was just a pure cash register for them.

But then again- this goes back to 92' when I was in the mods so things might have changed with them. Not sure there are many mods even left.

Side note- and why I don't contribute to BC now and never have- is that they tried to bill my Dad (a big alum and lifelong contributor) for damage done to the Mod I was housed in- when that Mod was literally demolished two weeks after I graduated - leveled and cleared away- and they wanted my Dad to pay for "room damages" for a destroyed building. And then there was the LaSalle housing scam- that I won't go into- but basically it was a legal bribe to get me housing cause I was accepted without housing.

. . . were modular pre-fab two story housing units attached railroad style two or three units connected one to the other in a line. Each unit housed six- three bedrooms up stairs full living area with kitchen downstairs - one and a half baths. I think there are only a few left now. There was a "village" of them that dotted the center of the lower main campus. Everyone wanted to live in a "Mod"- they were considered the best housing mainly because of the lack of supervision and they had the best parties.
