Detour because of trunk space
Parts of Mass. Ave. and Memorial Drive in Cambridge and the Charles River Bridge will be shut this afternoon to let circus elephants take their annual march to the Garden. The procession begins at roughly 1:30 p.m., according to Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus:
The animals will depart Pacific Ave in Cambridge then turn right onto Albany St then right onto Mass Ave. They will turn left on Memorial drive and stay on Memorial Drive to the Charles River Bridge on Msgr O'Brien Highway. They will turn right to cross the Charles River Bridge and pass in front of the Museum of Science. They will then go down Martha Road and take a left on Nashua Street to the Garden ramp.

Timing
Good thing the circus is in town before the drawbridge detour in three weeks.
Come to think of it, I always hear about the elephants arriving, never their departure.
The departure is easy, it's
The departure is easy, it's getting them into the venues that's an issue. They don't like walking into enclosed spaces. Feel like we talked about this last year, but the handlers literally walk them into a frenzy so they're exhausted (and all wear blinders so they can only see narrowly in front of them).
Also, elephants won't go up an incline greater than a certain degree; the new garden ramp was built with this in mind.
Departure
So do they get back on the train near North Station, because they don't need to be tired out?
Time change
Just got word the march is now scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Also, yes, there will be a similar march in reverse when the circus closes; but no specific details on that yet.
How long?
Does anyone know how long the march/parade takes? How long does it take them to get to the Museum of Science?
It's so sad

Ringling brothers
and any other curcus should be shut down. Why pay $ for cruelty to animals?
Maybe you mean "any other
Maybe you mean "any other circuses that feature animals?"
There are animal-free circuses after all.
If I had my way..
they'd march straight back in to the wild. Where they belong. Not being paraded up and down city streets as an advertisement for the horrible lives they lead.
Where they'd be shot the next day
Tusks harvested, rest of entire body left to rot in the sun.
Reverse Route Info?
Is there any information yet on the reverse route home that these elephants will take on Monday 10/18? What time will the parade occur and what route will they take? Thanks.
