If it's so dangerous, why do they keep doing it? Why not require that someone who is being pulled over exit the highway and stop on the side of the local road or in a parking lot?
And why don't we have more DUI checkpoints if there are so many drunk drivers out there?
"Sergeant Douglas Weddleton, 52, was killed when an alleged drunk driver struck the vehicle of another alleged drunk driver"
No, thats not a coincidence, that's an epidemic and the state isn't doing anything to stop it.
When cop friends from out of state visit me, they are stunned at the lack of enforcement. Sort of a "broken window" theory. People presume that ignoring MA traffic laws is a God-given right, like free speech. It's not funny. It's not amusing. It's expensive, in terms of injuries, delays and property damage, not to mention corrosive to civility. Ticket people for jaywalking and changing lanes without signalling. Sounds crazy but I bet it makes this place a little more liveable. And make a few examples of drunk drivers, no matter WHO their state rep lawyer is.
That's what I can't figure out - there seem to be plenty enough cops around to start enforcing basic laws, and yet they are constantly bickering over not having enough of them hired for this or that event.
Why are there so many cops around here if they aren't doing anything besides holding public events and farmers' markets hostage over featherbedding? Maybe we either don't need so many cops or we need to find better things for them to be doing.
I just don't get the whole ignoring all traffic laws here. It's not just cars, it's pedestrians and cyclists as well. It's insane here. There's something about the mentality of this region that makes people think they can do whatever they want. Nutty ass u-turns on Mass ave. No problem. Driving in the breakdown lane - stupid (even though it's legal. The rest of the developed world calls this a shoulder and keeps moving cars out of it). Jaywalking in front of a bus, no problem. People here just seem freakin clueless, to be honest. To my out of town friends they think it makes Boston seem very colloquial and small town. I don't know why they don't enforce any of the traffic laws, but I wish they would. Traffic behavior here is just ridiculous.
I agree with the broken window theory. Giuliani really cleaned up Manhattan (though some would say for the worse) based on that concept.

Sigh...
Do they not have editors at the Globe on the weekend?
It's a Chrysler Sebring, not Seabring.
