The BPL has put up a collection of Boston post cards from the early to mid-1900s, including this one, from back in the day when sheep roamed free in Franklin Park.

I have some of those,
I have some of those, unused.
As soon as I find some uncanceled stamps of the appropriate time periods, I can mail some post cards with great stock tips, warnings of sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, and other sage advice received too late.
how else were they going to
how else were they going to cut all that grass?
They've got a lot more up on
They've got a lot more up on a display in the lobby of the new building at the central branch. Some really great stuff there.
That's really cool
I actually had no idea that Huntington Ave used to cut right through Copley like that, or that it was redesigned so recently. Hey, I'm of a younger generation, sod off. ;)
Also cool, in a weird way
The large clock stuck in the grass.
Yeah it's interesting that
Yeah it's interesting that Copley square didn't really exist. What's odd now is that the weird diagonal across the park goes the opposite direction from Huntington. I also think it's interesting that the trolleys used to run above ground there.
There's an interesting one up on the physical display which shows boating on the Charles that I can't figure out quite where it is. I think it might be at one of the ponds on the Esplanade.
You can buy these on Ebay.
You can buy these on Ebay. Olmsted wanted sheep at Franklin Park because he didn't want the grass cut by machine - he wanted that nibbled look.
