Fulmination scheduled to begin at 10:40 a.m., you betcha

A friend in the media passes along the latest schedule from organizers of Palinpalooza on the Common tomorrow (oddly, the schedule doesn't list exactly where, but I can't imagine she'll be hard to find):

  • 9:00 AM - Supporters expected to begin arriving at rally location
  • 9:20 AM - Brass band begins performing Sousa marches for crowd
  • 10:00 AM - Rally begins
  • 10:40 AM - Gov. Sarah Palin expected to speak
  • 12:30 PM - Expected conclusion time of rally

Reminder: The real tea-party people (the ones with actual tea and signs with slogns like "Ask me about Watercress)" will be near the visitors' center on Tremont Street. No clue where the Coffee Party people will be (they're being as vague as the Palin people) or if my peeps, the Seltzer Party people, will make an appearance.

This is no good. The Boston Common already has already reached a comfortable level of crazy and drunk people. The tea-baggers will push that level off the scale. Think of the children!

But it is more effective when it is at least somewhat coherent and intelligent.

dissent in the name of multiple wars in defiance of national public opinion is patriotism

dissent for dissent's sake isn't anything

I haven't heard one person of any value suggest that teabaggers aren't patriotic. They may be completely uninformed to the point of intentionally remaining ignorant only in order to justify their outrageous hatred to the point of near insanity in the face of irrefutable facts on many issues. But nobody has said it isn't their right as free men in this country to do so and act like petulant children in the process. Westboro Baptist cult members do and say far worse, but we still let them do it and even defend their right to do so. In fact, the only difference that makes Westboro Baptist cult members unpatriotic compared to Tea Party cult members is that WBs want the troops to die to prove a point about God. TPs just want other citizens to die to prove a point about healthcare and national finance. But at least that means TPs are still patriotic.

By the way, they're serving tea on the other side of the Common if you'd like to come down off that cross you've nailed yourself to for a while. The weather's too nice to be swinging at strawmen from upon your self-sacrificial crucifixion...but that's a really neat parlor trick the way you do it all at the same time like that.

A tea party website says the corner of Charles and Beacon: http://www.teapartyexpress.org/tour-shedule-3/bost...

Sousa marches. Awesome. Will they play "Liberty Bell"? And will a giant foot squash them at the end?

up

Wait - it ends at 12:30am or 12:30pm?

up
Voting closed 0

...they run the risk of drawing a crowd that doesn't consist entirely of the idle and the unemployable.

up

But I bet what they really meant was 12:30 p.m., so I've changed it.

I should either make sure that I get to work by 9 or bring a camera.

Notice that all the tea party websites list no information on parking or transit use. Going to be fun watching all the frustrated Tea Partiers driving around looking for where they can park close to the event - like a parade.

A lot of them are shipping in from out of state by bus - $35 for Mainiacs, for example.

You realize that by linking to that you're pointing supporters in the right direction to give them more money, right?

The Boston Cops and the State Police are liberal radicals for demanding more detail time from this charade? Whooda thunk?

up
Voting closed 0

I wonder how these people feel about the cops. They ARE unionized, but on the other hand, they're the ones to call when a hippie or a black person shows up in your neighborhood. Sort of a dilemma.

Has anybody put together a website such as that? It really needs to be done. See http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/ for a model.

Though you'd probably see a lot of the same people.

Michael Graham is speaking. He's telling the Tea Party audience that they work hard and carry their own weight in society while everyone else is free loading.

just not today i guess

up

hmmm... all those free-loaders who are at work instead of the rally.

I predict the Mad Hatters will move farther and farther into unreason until they have completely inverted logic.

At that point, a demonstration composed entirely of disabled, retired, and government employees will gather to protest in strident tones the "freeloaders" who are busy working to support them. In the name of hard work, conservative values, and fighting communism, the grass-roots protesters (organized by a multi-million dollar media corporation and paid a stipend) will protest improved public schooling, increasing immigrant work visas, raising social security retirement age, means testing, any reduction in medicare or medicaid - in short, any government measure that could help the rest of us support them.

You know, if an insurgent group of tea partiers boarded ships in the harbor today, and vandalized and destroyed millions of dollars worth of cargo, I think they wouldn't be romantic heroes, if you get my drift. I think the words "pirates" and "terrorists" would be more common that "patriots".

up
Voting closed 0

"water the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants" rhetoric the Tea Party, militia movement and right wing nuts love so much is also more "pirates" and "terrorists" than "patriots". Don't they know sedition is crime?

They don't.

But they're about to learn.

Palin claims that the average worker works 100 days per year to pay their taxes. True or false?

Straw man: "Tea Party is being told to sit down and shut-up."

We're going to fire the politicians becuase they just don't get it. (Not one word about the causes of the financial market reforms and mortgage market reforms.)

This is an anti-tax movement. Did these people drive on public roads to get there?

Palin claims Obama's economic policies are anti-American.

We'll keep clinging to out guns and Constitution and you can keep the change.

(I can't believe this women might have been one heartbeat away from the Presidency. Does it bother you that the Republicans would gamble on Palin like that?

If Palin making $100,00 for this speach? Who is paying?)

Our smarts come from long-standing truths.

We have an expectation that every able-bodied American will work. Too many on the left don't see it that way. But we'll fix it in the next election.

We are witnessing financial insolvency of our country.

Obama is alienating our allies.

We have to be united to take this (our government) back.

Private sector would run better if government would get out of the way.

We applaud the Tea Party and condemn the lame stream media.

We can all be optimistic. If you know where to look there are real signs. Neighbors are voluntarily helping neighbors. Entrepreneurs and small business oweners are working hard despite what our government is doing to us.

There are common sense conservative leaders who aren't afraid to make tough decision. Over the last year and 1/2 they have learned their lessons.

We need less government bureaucracy and more free markets.

Drill, baby, brill.

Otherwise, do you want to see us bowing to the Saudis and coddling Chavez.

God knows we have the (natural) resources, he created them.

These are the kind of common sense solution Americans are looking for.

She's calls health care socialized medicine (which is a flat-out lie.)

On Taxes, starve the beast. We need to cut taxes.

(Pass the word salad.)

I'm in the top 15% wealth group and I think we worked about 50 days to pay all our state, local, and federal taxes.

Then again, we have a modest house, a single car, four standard deductions, and a mortgage to write off. If we had a huge house, we would pay more taxes, of course.

She probably doesn't understand the part where you get to write some of your taxes off on your other taxes. Or the part where private school is mondo expensive compared to what taxes you pay for public school. Shhh.

Are you picking out highlights, or is that a word-for-word transcript?

(Hey, with her you never know, maybe the ink on her palm started running.)

up
Voting closed 0

I can't liveblog fast enough to do a word-for-word.

I did my best picking out stuff that is misleading propaganda and which Tea Party folks buy into as justification for the policies they espouse. These policies just happen to be the same conservatives policies advocated and implemented long before George Bush. Tea Party is a re-marketing effort of the Republican party for long standing conservative interests. My fav line is Palin saying that the Republicans have learned their lesson in the last year and 1/2. Really? Is that why they are advocating the same policies that put tour economy into the worst recession since the great depression. Sheesh.

Where was Senator Brown? He couldn't run away fast enough!

The republican party has decided that it is Palin's job to go around doing this to get the support of the right wing nutjobs and making sure they are going to be involved in the process and either vote and/or donate money. Then when a more normal candidate comes election time with the Republican nod, Palin will come out and support that normal canditate.

This also brings them a lot of press which they like as well.
