Getting on the city payroll just isn't what it used to be

The Globe reports the Brighton man charged in connection with three armed robberies worked for the Boston DPW - at least, until news of his arrest surfaced.

Thanks to the Herald's Boston payroll database, we know that Miguel Vargas made $27,932.27 as a DPW laborer last year.

Innocent, etc.

Hate to say it, but why were two shots fired?

Police sure like killing dogs, don't they? Luckily they missed. And before you say, wait, it attacked them, ask yourself this.

What kind of dog attacks someone, but runs and cowers in the bathroom after a loud noise? Not a dangerous dog, that’s for sure.

The two most defensive groups of people on the planet I've come across recently: Poly people (did anyone catch that Boston.com video about poly couples? So many awkward moments), and pitbull owners.

I've been around a pitbull; this particular example was a 100lb dog with not a single ounce of fat on its body- nearly 100% muscle. You couldn't look the dog in the eye or it would take it as a challenge and *start walking towards you growling*.

She could be sweet and loved to play, but it was kind of like having tea with a biker from Hell's Angels who randomly whips out a revolver, points it at you, screams "I'm gonna cap your ass, you son of a bitch!", then goes back to sipping a cup of tea, and asks if you've seen the current Boston Ballet production.

That was a dog which had been through a rescue program and lived with a loving family for a few years. Now picture one that's been raised by Mr. Charming. Most of the guard breeds don't back down for anything or anyone except the owner, especially when you're a stranger and you've barged into their home turf aggressively.

If you have spent any time around properly socialized and kept pit bulls, you would find that they are actually quite predictable and delightful, too.

Living near an area where too many dog owners think they can go leash free, I can honestly say that pit bulls are much less of a problem than rotweilers, german shepards, and that husky that I trapped and turned over to the dog officer after it terrorised children and elders and pets in my neighborhood.

There is no such thing as a problem breed of dog. There are only problem breeders and problem owners who create problem dogs.

a pitbull raised and (probably illegally) kept in city projects is unlikely to be "properly socialized"

Well look at the statistics, there clearly are "problem breeds of dogs." Just saying "there are no problem breeds of dogs" doesn't make it so.

Does anybody know where I can get a mugshot or other photo of John Michael Forbes, the alleged drug dealer and aspiring arsonist or whatever who worked as Menino's East Boston liaison? They say he looked "like an altar boy", but I've been unable to judge for myself because I can't find hid mugshot on this site, or anywhere.
