Coffee provides the proper medicinal boost at the right price.

Glazed donuts heated on a skillet 'til the sugar carmelizes make for an occasional breakfast treat.

Though I do wonder about Tim Horton's (if it ever makes an appearance here), which a Canadian acquaintance raves about.

Tim Horton's is slowly making its way here. They started in Canada, and have been springing up all over Maine (in fact, there's one in Portland, if you're so inclined...). Who knows, maybe they'll enter MA soon.

Would love to give Tim Horton's a try.

They are actually in MA - at least one in Fall River, and maybe a couple of other cities as well.

Krispy Kreme are all air - the Wonder Bread of donuts. If you have a pile of them you can make a meal, but a single donut is like a gas-filled baloon.

No surprises there! Dunkin Donuts is everywhere. Tim Horton's is a good franchise. They are a Canadian outfit. I think there are some shops in the Attleboro area.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tim Horton's started popping up in Boston. They are a Canadian chain, but have absolutely made their way into NYC. i think this is one of the articles about it from the NYT

There are at least one or two in Providence.

Their store locator shows two in North Attleboro and three on the Southcoast (Swansea, Fall River)

I was just about to ask if there are any good donut shops left in this area. I'm aware of the high prevalence of Dunkin' Donuts everywhere, but I think they've declined considerably. Their donuts may be less air-filled than Krispy Kreme Donuts, but they taste like cardboard, imo. I've never tried Tim Horton's, though.

Two non-chain favorites:

  • Verna's on Mass Ave in Cambridge
  • Gail-Ann Coffee Shop on Medford St in Arlington.

Both very tasty. I like Dunks as well, but they have a bit of that chain food mediocrity going on.

Not a big donut fan. But I like coffee. Dunkin is okay coffee. I prefer it over the burnt taste of a Starbucks regular coffee. But if a Peet's coffee is nearby that is always my first choice. I also like Flat Black's on the corner of Milk and Broad. But Peet's coffee can't be beat.

. . . . is the Boston Common Coffee Company. I go to their North End Location a lot on Salem street. Good atmosphere- comfortable. They serve hot sandwiches as well. The coffee is good.

Everyone should make an effort to support local coffee houses over out of town corporate chains. Walk the extra block to go buy local! Don't give Starbuck our money. Help your neighbors!
