sad to see a business close, but the proprietor wasn't exactly mr. congeniality.

the proprietor of Velouria, was a real solid guy and made a great cup of coffee. I don't know where you get off stating that he "wasn't exactly Mr. Congeniality," but enjoy your lukewarm mud from Dunkin' Donuts regardless.

I liked him and I'm very sad he had to close his business.

I had nothing but pleasant interactions with him, and the loss of his coffee shop is a loss for the community. There's a large segment of the neighborhood's population that doesn't want DD's flavorless swillwater and actually enjoys freshly ground beans that produce a coffee with some potency or an espresso or cappucino that doesn't come out of an envelope. Velouria and Junebug helped fill that need, and now both of them are gone.

I'm all for trying the dark roasts at Miami Restaurant and Tostadas, but anyone looking for a broader range will have to truck it to Fiore's, Ula, City Feed, the Robinwood, Java Jo's or the daycare center formerly known as JP Licks for a decent cup in this area. Call it elitist if you'd like, but drinking dark coffee and espresso is what the average person does in the northwest or upper midwest. You mock a logger in Aberdeen for drinking espresso and you're likely the next thing he'll cut down to size.
