Insurers to hospitals: Suck it up

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center CEO Paul Levy reports Massachusetts health-insurance companies will soon tell hospitals they will pay less for services, which he predicts will lead to widespread layoffs and service cuts.
Levy, who supports Charlie Baker for governor, blames the Patrick administration for "arbitrary price caps" (except for rival Partners Health Care, he says).

control costs
BCBS raised my rate 47% in one year, not becuase I've become sick but 27% of it is becuase I turned 50 and 20% of it is because BCBS, an alleged non-profit, put in a rate increase. Gov Patrick is fighting the 20% but the 27% is here to stay.
The CPI was 2.2% for twelve months. Compare that to health insurance inflation of 2136% BCBS just dropped on me.
Really? We really couldn't have medicare for all which has an overhead cost of less than 3%? BCBS overhead is 20%, about 1/7 x BCBS.
... Levy gave back 50,000 of his multi-million dollar salary when the board caught him hiring his old girlfriend. Will that help bring down rates?
uhh I thought the healthcare overhaul
was supposed to fix all this??
This is interesting...
...considering the insurance companies are ALSO demanding 10+% increases in premiums at the same exact time they are telling the hospitals that they're going to pay them less.
What? Were they worried that BP was stealing all of their thunder?
