Jamaica Plain sees increase in store robberies

Latest Boston Police statistics show five stores in District E-13 have been robbed to date, compared to none in the same period last year and two the year before.

The number does not include the fatal holdup of the Centre Street Tedeschi, which happened Dec. 26.

Police urge store owners to take a number of steps to protect themselves, including instituting a no-hats/no-sunglasses rule for customers, ensuring surveillance cameras are working and adding a measurement strip to exits, to get a better gauge of any robber's height.

Elsewhere, commercial robberies are up from two to five in District B-2 (Roxbury and part of Dorchester) and up from three to four District A-7 (East Boston). In the rest of the city, they are either down or the same as last year.

Are these statistics

Are these statistics available to the public, or will an enterprising JP'er have to fill out a FOIA request to see them?

The overall numbers or the specific instances?

If the former, click on the first link in the post.

No hats? By the time you tell

No hats? By the time you tell the guy to take off his hat, he's got a gun in your face. You'd need a bouncer in your door to make that one work.

Any idea why not?

How is it that there were no robberies last year?

those are store 'holdups' in that district.

Although that is kind of suprising.

Through mid-February

Sorry if my post wasn't clear - the stats are comparing the first month and a half, roughly, between this year and last year, not the entire year.

Got it, thanks

So we are on a pace for 40 holdups in JP this year? Yuck.
