A library system fighting to keep its branches open

Unlike the BPL, some of whose trustees say they'd probably voted to shut branches even if they had the money, the New York Public Library is actively fighting to keep all its branches open.

This is very telling

The NYPL takes the fight to keep libraries open right to its home page.

The BPL, by comparison, is complicit in its own decline. The city that gave birth to the public library is now the site of its cannibalization.

The NYPL only covers 3 of 5

The NYPL only covers 3 of 5 Boroughs (Manhattan, The Bronx, and Staten Island); Brooklyn and Queens have their own library systems. But both of those systems have the budget cuts on their homepages--the Brooklyn Library even has a pop-up that you HAVE to view before continuing to the homepage.

Boston has....nothing.

NYC just doesn't see the exciting transformational...

... potential of ripping apart the neighborhood (and central) library system.
