The Pit was surely a well-motivated idea, probably designed to be something like an outdoor forum or Speakers' Corner, but it just became a pit. It collects a nasty tribe.

Maybe it's time to fill it in or redesign it. Oddly, the plaza in front of the Holyoke Center does pretty well, with the chess players et al.
