Manslaughter for stabbing man to death at cookout

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Richard Parris of Dorchester for repeatedly stabbing a man until he was dead at a cookout in 2008.

Parris will be sentenced Monday to up to 20 years in prison. Prosecutors had sought a verdict of second-degree murder, which could have meant a life sentence.

Prosecutors said Parris, 40, stabbed Sheldon Andrews, 29, eight times at a Holiday Street barbecue following an argument that came roughly ten days after Andrews had smashed a bottle over Parris's head in another argument.
