MBTA set to release subway-location data today

The Globe reports on the companion to the Next Bus system that will let you know if you have enough time to grab a coffee at the Dunkin's upstairs. Well, unless you ride the Green Line - sorry, no data for you today.

The T's also planning to install monitors in the stations for the smartphone-less.

Arghhhhh! The Green Line is the "rapid" transit line that needs this the most!

At Park Street, they do have a guy in a booth announcing that a Riverside train has arrived...as a Riverside train is almost finished boarding. Gotta start somewhere, I suppose.

One would think that the Green Line would be easier since smartphone reception will be easier there. You could just post the data online. Also, since much of the Green Line involves people waiting outside, it would be very helpful there to know if another train is coming soon. Posting monitors on the Green Line for those of us who don't have a smart phone would, of course, take longer since they have to worry about them being out in the elements.
