Arrests for reported pervishness on the T up 84% this year

The MBTA reports that through Friday (when this guy was arrested, MBTA police have received 48 reports of open and gross lewdness - with 35 cases resulting in arrest.

This compares with 28 reports and 19 arrests for the same period last year.

MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the difference may be that riders are more likely to report disgusting behavior than in the past, thanks in part to greater media attention to the issue. See, for example, the attention paid to the guy caught in part through Twitter. The T itself has run a couple of public-awareness campaigns aimed at subway groping.

I read that as ....

..."peevishness" up 84% -- and thought "is that all?". ;~}

Cell phone cameras

The ubiquitousness of cell phone cameras these days makes evidence-gathering easier, too. Bystanders can more easily snap a pic of the alleged perv which can lead to an arrest.
