Riders have to be rescued from dead Blue Line train when power lines fall - again

For the second time in three weeks, plunging power lines brought the Blue Line to a halt in East Boston and left riders on one train stranded until Boston firefighters could lead them to safety.

A train near Airport station came to a grinding halt when the overhead power lines fell around 5:30 p.m. Shuttle buses are now running, according to the MBTA.

On Jan. 21, a similar incident stranded riders near Orient Heights and disrupted Blue Line service for much of the day.

What a scene at Maverick station last night when all passengers had to get off the train at once. The station simply couldn’t handle that many people exiting at the same time – people trying to enter the station to board a train we pushed to the side, all of the escalators stopped and were all being used as stairs to go “up”, and the hapless MBTA employees were standing around as 80% of the exit doors at the headhouse were locked. God help us all if there’s ever a fire, attack, or real emergency…
