A sea of genteel, amiable bicyclists cruising along the Charles

Sean Roche reports from last night's monthly Critical Mass bike ride from Copley Square to Cambridge and back to Boston. Aside from one Masshole doing stupid, annoying stuff on his bike, he says he was greatly impressed by "lots of smart young people, men and women, for the most part asserting their legal right to the road, not looking for trouble."

Is there a push to make riding bikes illegal? I don't understand...
Many years ago I did the midnight architectural bike ride in Boston. There were no issues whatsoever. Just a group of 60 or so riding their bikes through the streets of Boston at night, stopping periodically at different buildings where the guide would point out notable structures. No one felt threatened or that we were doing anything that might soon become illegal. Who is threatening you?

The issues usually aren't from city drivers, whom are used to seeing bikes on the street, but the suburbanites driving through town. For example, every time there is a RedSox game there is massive hostility towards the regular bicycle commuters in and around Kenmore Square. These are the same cyclists which no regular city driver has a problem during rush hour in the same area, but when the suburbanites come in, "GET ON THE SIDEWALK AND OUT OF THE WAY OF MY NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD LAND-TANK!". Those are the people whom don't understand that in most cases traffic in the city only can move 20-25mph due to stop lights, traffic and intersections and that bicycle keeping pace with the car in front of them, or in a nice bike lane off to the side, isn't going to affect how fast the car gets them to the destination.

Superior human beings, no doubt.

Is beings a subject or an object? And while we are at it: Would you like to buy a verb?

When I want to ride with a critical mass of bicycles, I head to Mass Ave in Cambridge, any time of day or night. Conditions are generally good for bikes, and there isn't anyone getting in the way of other road users while pretending they're a leaderless group of people who coincidentally formed a mob.

If I were biking and had Critical Mass get in the way, I'd be rather annoyed.
