Interesting, and sad
In My Father's Footsteps:
I didn't laugh, but I did go "huh!" Then again, my father grew up in Brownsville, so this resonates:
Because back in his day, you either fled from the tough Irish schoolboys or you formed your own gangs and fought back.
Hail Brooklynite
Adam, What's a "lurp"?
About $10, same as in town
OK, I have no clue. Was it in her article?
no, not in the article
My brother lived in Brooklyn in the late 80s. I visited him and we were riding the subway one day. I heard one guy talking to another guy say "Shuddup you stupid lurp (loip) ." I figured it was a local insult and that you might know, having grown up in Brooklyn.
Also, did you ever go to the place that makes deap fried snickers bars? or Katz deli on Houston?
Katz's not in Brooklyn
Katz's is on East Houston in the Lower East Side. It was a hangout for my father's family for multiple generations. He was born LES and moved to Brooklyn when he was 11 years old, and, also went to Midwood. More recently, my cousin on my mother's side went to Midwood.
It seems like everyone either has Midwood or Erasmus connection...fertile schools, I suppose. :)
LOVE MEANS NEVER HAVING TO

He also lived in a...
...Yellow Submarine. Let us honor him also for writing the script for the Beatles' movie, with witty wordplay like, "Liverpool can be a lonely place on a Saturday night. And this is only Thursday morning...Compared to my life, Eleanor Rigby's was a gay, mad world."
