The short life of Beau James Youngs

UPDATE: Son gets final farewell as alleged killer arraigned.

Boston Police report the identity of a man stabbed to death in front of the Boylston Street Walgreens early on May 1: Beau James Youngs. Police note Youngs, 22, was homeless, "currently staying in the Boston area and previously from Maryland."

Of course, there's always a story behind the bare headlines. In this case, Youngs was a troubled kid who had a history of running away. Somebody who knew him in Boston adds:

He was a homeless guy known on the street as "J". He was in his early twenties, always stemming [panhandling] in that area of Boylston. His only real family was his girlfriend, who also stemmed in that area near him. They were pretty inseparable. Other homeless people in the area said a white dude named Kevin, a recent arrival on the homeless scene, had stabbed him. I hope they make an arrest soon - I feel bad that we didn't show up a little sooner, we could maybe have helped. How there weren't other witnesses at 11:40 on a beautiful Friday night on Boylston is beyond me.

Anyone who has information on his murder can contact the homicide unit at 617-343-4470 or the anonymous tip line by calling 1-800-494-TIPS or texting TIP to CRIME (27463).

I am deeply saddened by this tragedy.I used to work with the homeless community and I gave Beau and his girlfriend medical care when they needed it. He is survived by his baby girl that he and his girlfriend had last year. I am hoping and praying that she is ok and that she is getting through this bad time.

horrible but its daily survival for the homelesss all over the world, not just boston/copley...

theres no honor,, you always have to watch your back, not all but most wound up on the streets due to

a drink or a drug...... some have hit bottom..... not much can be done... the shelters are full and

most dont like them, the city has all they can do to provide food and healthcare..... not by violence,

but how many die you dont read about? more than you think..... theyre fighting all the time on the steps

at wainwright/ harvard pilgrim next to back bay... it wont be long before someone else gets hurt....

when i saw it on the news homeless related was first in my mind.... sad may he rest in peace... now

theyre watching their back every minute!!!

Beau and Katie's baby girl was put into foster care immediately after birth. I thank the Boston SS Dept. for their quick action on this. Thankfully she is safe and was never touched by this tragedy. She had been adopted and is in a loving home.

I know that Beau's daughter was taken at birth, however, he was still her biological parent and that cannot be taken away. Thankfully, the baby did not have to deal with this but it sounded as if people should not know that he was survived by his baby daughter.

I also worked with Beau for 2 years and he was a wonderful person. He was always willing to help any homeless youth on the streets and also served in the military protecting this country. It saddens me that so many of our veterans come home and become homeless. May Beau James Young rest in peace. He's definitely in a better place.

Yes, there was an absolutely wonderful person within Beau trying desperately to get beyond life on the streets. He was caring of others and a protector of weaker people to the end. Beau did not serve in the military....had to set the record straight on that one, though. He wanted so badly to be more than he was and, as a result, lived several lies that were retold so often that I almost think he began to believe them himself. Did you never wondering in the two years you knew him how he could be so young and still have served at least a 3 year stint in the armed forces? I am sorry that you fell victim to one of his fantasies, but wanted to let you know that it was the person inside Beau that wanted to be an upstanding person that personified that lie. Thank you for caring about Beau.

Yet another example of how people who live on the streets and don't go looking for trouble have trouble come find them anyway.

Folks I have been homeless off and on in the Boston area since 1987 and I believe I can offer an insiders opinion, though not neccesarily the one you want. Among the homeless there are those that "stem" and those who don't. Those who do can make a small fortune sitting on their milk crates and shaking a cup. They need to, these folks tend to have the most intense drug habits and need such a princely amount. Furthermore, they tend to be the least desirous of true change. "God Bless" (and keep the money coming thank you). A mantra of sorts among these folks is "I ain't out robbin' people". Hmmm, something tells me when the quarters aren't dancin many do. Bottom line, they're the moralistic and social dregs, and I'd know.
I'm not putting down all the programs, with the exception of saturdays offering in central square and the sham that is Food Not Bombs the meal offerings are excellent and served with heart. BUT OH YOU NAIVE LIBERALS, dyed in the wool and lip-service variety alike, you need to understand something: Your doing way more good donating to an established program than enabling these folks today and perpetuating their drug habits indefinitely. God bless (only sincerely)
