Situation over, but area is a mess, Boston_Fireman tweets.

As of 12:30, the T was still showing this alert

Green Line experiencing 10-15 min delays due to Boston Fire Department activities at Park Street. 3/2/2010 10:49 AM

Guess they've found today's excuse for justifying the continued miserable midday headways on the Green Line.

BFD activities!

That's great! Our trains aren't delayed because they catch fire; they're delayed because the fire department is conducting activities.

I was late to work today due to traffic-control device activity and subsequent law enforcement exercises.

Well it turns out there was

Well it turns out there was no smoke, no fire. A sample of some of the tweets at the time

First report from Boston Fireman on Twitter
"MBTA EMERGENCY: Box 33-1441 struck for Park Street MBTA Station. Reported disabled train filled with smoke, unknown line-Expect delays #mbta "

second report
"UPDATE: Box 33-1441-Park Street MBTA Station. Disabled train filled with smoke on Green Line. Expect delays in and around station "

But then there were these updates from someone else who appeared to be listening to Boston Fire Department radio transmissions
first:
"#bfd reports no smoke, no fire, Box 33-1441 Park St #mbta station "
second:
#bfd reports overheated motor on the trolley, #mbta will tow
third:
#bfd C-6 declaring all out Box 1441 Park St #mbta Station. All companies dismissed.

So I would guess that all the firemen lurking around Park St., examining a dead streetcar that already had power cut to the overheating, probably did cause more delays then the original incident itself.
