Track fire at Downtown Crossing disrupts Orange Line service

A fire on outbound tracks shut Orange Line service at Downtown Crossing shortly before 10 p.m. Firefighters reported an apparent electrical fire as a train entered the station (see video). The T shut power down on the line - just as already frustrated Bruins fans were pouring out of the Garden. Power was restored about 10:20.

This is the second night in a row the Orange Line's gone down. Last night, a train derailed at Oak Grove.

can be added to the list of daily Orange Line woes. Took me an hour to get from Forest Hills to Back Bay.

I was on the second one, which happened to be the same train that picked up stranded passengers from the first. Everybody had a pretty good attitude I thought, but then it doesn't happen often on the Orange Line, so people aren't as jaded as the suffering B and Red Line riders.

...got to stand around at Mass Ave? (Stupidly -- I forgot that one could walk to the Symphong E Line stop).

Yes, people were remarkably cheery despite the mess.

Yeah, the E-line would have been a good choice, not sure why I didn't think of it either.
