SomerStreets is a new city program in which a specific stretch of road will be closed one day each month for a party:
... The May 22nd event will cover a three mile loop, kicking off from Foss Park and continuing along the future Blueback Herring River Route, Shore Drive, and the Mystic River Reservation. Similar programs will be held each month throughout the summer, in different Somerville neighborhoods. ...

Foss Fest + SomerStreets
I'll resurrect this old post to point out that SomerStreets is having another event today in East Somerville. Broadway will be closed from Sullivan Square to Temple Street (http://www.somervillema.gov/cos_content/documents/SomerStreets7-25-2010MapActivities.pdf) with a bunch of stuff going on along that stretch. Foss Fest (http://www.fossfest.com/) will be going on concurrently at the corner of Broadway and Fellsway West from noon til 4. There will be a parade sometime around 12:45. East Somerville Main Streets has the most extensive schedule (http://www.eastsomervillemainstreets.org/SomerStreets.html).
There's also something called the open air circus (http://www.openaircircus.org/) going on in Foss Park - I don't know what that is exactly but let's assume it involves wobbly people trying to learn to use stilts dangerously close to a tiger pen, and/or unruly children being shot out of cannons. The comic possibilities are endless.
