State to 93 North drivers: Seek alternate routes
By adamg on Wed, 08/04/2010 - 3:13pm
MassDOT says I-93 north will be down to one lane tonight as crews continue to fight the Car-Eating Pothole of Doom, and suggests these alternates:
- Drivers on I-93 heading northbound toward Boston from the south should use Route 128/Interstate 95;
- Drivers leaving the downtown area headed northwest should take I-90 west to Route 128/I-95 north to I-93 north of the city;
- Drivers leaving the downtown area headed north may use the Tobin Bridge/Route 1 to Interstate 95.

Storrowtoo?
We were told in my office that Storrow westbound will also be restricted to one lane from 4pm-midnight. I can't seem to find any info elsewhere about this closure.
Event?
Is there a concert or something? That'll close it.
Hatch Shell classical concert every Wednesday
Boston Landmarks Orchestra
Right, right
The group that plays concerts exclusively for people who like to sit around and drink wine and then tell people about how they listened to classical music.
I find that rather insulting
as someone who attends many of these concerts and enjoys them. (I don't usually bring wine.) What made you say this?
Just what I've heard
People who've played with them have said the audiences are really pretentious. They're hardly the only group to have weird audiences though -- I've definitely played with others where that's the case.
Taking the T
I think I'll leave my car in the Cambridge garage and commuter rail it on home tonight.

Alternate routes
Anyone notice that Cambridge, Somerville and Watertown were pretty clogged this
afternoon? Mass Ave around Porter Sq wasn't moving when I was there around 5:30.
holey shirt!
We leave town on bikes and everything goes to pot hole!
I wondered what was going on - my hub and I left the ferry at Long Wharf and took a more water-side route up to Medford that included the bike trail along I-93 in Somerville. I used to commute that route and thought it odd that the traffic was so horrendous and backed up. Now I know!
I have been using the cut through on Valley St. under that overpass for a long time, and I was concerned enough to contact MassDOT earlier this year to alert them to the condition of the structure. Spalling concrete from rusting rebar everywhere.
I took the day off to hit one
I took the day off to hit one of the beaches north of town and 93 was a parking lot after the Zakim even at 10am, so I ended up taking 99 instead. Coming back south at 4:30, it was 10 times worse. I feel bad for anyone who got stuck on it last night (well, sort of -- there was pretty ample warning).
