'Super hot company' has no plans to move to Silicon Valley

Bostinnovation.com chats with HubSpot CEO Brian Halligan about why the company, which helps other companies market themselves online, has no plans of decamping for the Coast. One reason: Massachusetts allows non-compete clauses in contracts, which makes it harder for good workers to leave.

Non-compete clauses
Non-compete clauses are part of the reason why my best career options were in California a few years ago, and I decamped. They're really a very bad deal for employees, and even prevent innovation and the movement of ideas for companies themselves. If you pay people fairly and treat/appreciate them well, then they stay.
EMC wouldn't agree with you ;-)
EMC had a case of a very high level exec leaving for HP and the courts nixed the move because of non-compete. This had nothing to do with pay or treating people well, it was simply a case of a company protecting it's strategies and technology.
BTW, I'm not big on non-compete either.
