The T has figured out how to prevent the clocks on their message signs

from displaying the wrong time. They simply shut the date/time feature off. As witnessed at several Green Line stations on my commute this morning, the signs are now completely blank when they are not displaying a service or "nanny" message.
Of course, I always thought the date/time display was an unnecessary feature of these signs anyway.

Maybe someday in the very
Maybe someday in the very distant future they will have a countdown of when the next train will come. Maybe someday they will tell us when a train is approaching more than 30 seconds before it arrives. Maybe someday their slogan wont be "America's oldest subway....so cut us some slack."
DC's Metro has had this for,
DC's Metro has had this for, oh, a billion years. And it's awesome.
Except...
when you get to an outdoor platform when it's 20 deg. and see that the next train isn't for 20 minutes.
The Time was useful
That was you knew exactly how long you had waited for your train.
Actually I find the time useful
I take the green line to a bus, which actually does run on a schedule. Knowing what time the T thinks it is helps me know whether to hurry or stroll based on when the next bus is supposed to leave. It's one of the things that allows me to not wear a watch.
