Substitute bus service for C commuters this morning, the MBTA reports. Photo of the tree that did in the C Line.

A resplendent (orange-vested) MBTA employee stood on the Tappan St. platform this morning, gesticulating wildly at anyone who crossed into the median and repeatedly shouting "BUS TO COOLIDGE CORNER OVER THERE! GO OVER THERE FOR THE BUS! THE BUS IS COMING! COOLIDGE CORNER BUS!" No explanation about the tree was forthcoming for those people who stared back blankly at her, thinking "Bus?", but to be fair, maybe she didn't know why there was a bus either.

They are only running trains with one car inbound from Coolidge Corner. I took the 66 bus instead.

end of the line due to the tree, running the remaining trains as single cars allows management to minimze the impact of the disruption on paper. In other words, they're fudging the service to improve the "on-schedule" performance statistics.

Of course, they could run additional cars into the system via the D line, and then 'backtrack' them to Coolidge Corner, but what's the fun of actually providing capacity to meet your demand. Beside, I'm sure the union would protest about being asked to actually run streetcars.

Evidently a tree fell in Brighton last night too. No word on whether the Audi made a sound.

Union Square, Allston

I really wanted to get the city's "Leaf Collection" billboard in the shot too, but the tow truck started to pull away too fast.

Turns out that Audi was taken out by the same tree as the Green Line (the plates match)

Nice. Now to ponder why it was being taken all the way to Union Square in Allston by way of Cambridge St back onto Brighton Ave when coming from around Brandon Hall on the C line...

In this city, I bet tow trucks charge by time and distance. They're like cabs for our cars!

Although, they might have taken it back down to Washington and then up to Cambridge St to avoid going down Harvard from Coolidge Corner in the morning. That can get quite hairy. They were probably taking it to that body shop over by Rugg Rd.

It is located in Watertown and has a contract to tow for the Brookline Police, State Police, and maybe the MBTA police. That is probably where the car went.

It took the right from northbound Cambridge St onto eastbound Brighton Ave.

Also (don't quote me on this), but I remember it as a Brighton Towing truck (black w/ yellow lettering).

I'm thinking it might have gone to Allston Auto Works over behind Common Ground or something. It's just weird, because the tree hit it on the inbound side of Boylston...but it would have had to go outbound to get to Washington to come all the way up Cambridge (maybe it could have come up Winchester, but you can't get there from inbound Boylston without still making a U-turn). It could have cut through Brookline about 3 different ways and still avoided Harvard. Weird. My brain liked it better when I thought it came from somewhere in Brighton.

What's the going rate, $1/yard?

But in all seriousness, I don't think these types of tows charge for milage. It was probably a contract tow with the MBTA or city.
