Vice Chairman of Boston Republican Committee to run for Marian Walsh's seat

Say hello to Brad Williams, an investment adviser from West Roxbury. He joins Democrat Mike Rush in the race; Walsh has yet to declare her intentions.

Adam's right, voters now have a choice between a Republican and a Republican who calls himself a Democrat, not that there's anything wrong with that (except the obvious intent to deceive for professional gain.)

He isn't trying to deceive anyone. Not sure where you get that? Perhaps take off your blinders. On the contrary. From what I know West Roxbury is a conservative democrat, blue collar area of the city. Always has been. Mostly Irish Catholic. So he represents the citizens of that area very well. he grew up there I assume? The problem with the democratic party today is that they have moved away from their roots. (Hence the Coakley Loss)Anger and frustration by democrats that their party is now run by liberals turned them off to Coakley and they voted for Brown. The party used to be for working men. Now it is for men who don't work. It used for Strong National Security and Lower Taxes (JFK) among other things. Remember? The rep in that district is very much in that mold. Votes against tax increases (sales tax and alcohol tax)because people pay enough taxes as it is and serves in the military for over 10 years. Yet has very high marks on issues like the environment which you and I know is not a Republican issue. Just because you aren't a moonbat doesn't make you a republican. Think about it.

Some of us who live in other parts of the district are not conservative Democrats and, yes, came to appreciate Marian Walsh more and more over the years (took real courage to change her position on gay marriage).
West Roxbury a "blue collar" area? You haven't looked at housing prices there in the past 20 years, I take it.
If Mike Rush wants to espouse Brownian conservative politics, that's fine, more power to him, but there's a party for folks like that. Name begins with an "R."
Also, who says environmentalism is only for Democrats? As long as you're going back 50 years (to a time when the top tax rate was 90%, so hardly the same situation we have today), I'll go you one better and got back 100 years - when we had a Republican environmentalist in the White House, guy named Roosevelt. Oh, but wait, he also wanted to break up large corporations (and his Republican successor went even further than he did). Maybe he wasn't really a Republican. Or maybe times change, and using decades-old political analogies isn't the best way to make your case.
No district votes all one way
No district votes all one way or the other. In that district Roslindale and Brookline are probably more left correct?
It takes courage to stand up for any position you take when you are in public office. If anything Walsh went liberal to advance her political career. She was voted in as a conservative irish catholic dem. Some would argue that isn't courageous. I wish Obama stuck with his guns and stayed with what he campaigned on.
In fact I have. Home prices went up everywhere in the city. I know a number of people who either grew up there or live there and they aren't rich/wealthy. (Cops, firefighters, city employees, state employees, teachers, retired from all these areas as well as mostly middle class people.) Housing prices are a product of supply and demand. It is city living with a suburb feel, along with a number of other things that makes it a very attractive place to live and that is why people want to live there. Demand goes up - prices go up. You can still be blue collar and sacrifice to live in a place like WR. JP is even more expensive from what I've read but that is clearly a different area but in the ciry of Boston. West Roxbury is very much a place people want to live so home prices are higher.
I don't think Rush is espousing Brown politics at all. Many of his views again are in line with the district which is a more traditional democrat vs a progressive democrat right? That is just the reality of the situation. Every time there is an election West Roxbury always has good turnout. I guess what you are saying is democrats have to be progressive in order to be "real democrats". I disagree. I heard somewhere that this is the party of inclusion. I'd like to believe it is but sometimes I doubt it which is disappointing. That's why Brown won (among many reasons). Conservative Dems didn't like Coakley and her liberal positions.
You are right in terms of the parties switching platforms. (50 years ago Dems were for lower taxes and national security/fighting the cold war and the R's were for higher taxes, protectionism, etc) Hell Lincoln was a Republican. Talk about a switch. My point is you won't many if any republicans who fight for the environment. This rep has from the start from my research.
After doing some looking through this site though I have yet to find anyone calling out SCS Andrea Cabral for switching parties to run for her office. She used to be a Rebublican. Sec of State Clinton was as well. According to the logic they aren't democrats right?
