Vigil at Logan

TaraskiewiczAs she does every September 13 and 14, Marlene Taraskiewicz will stand vigil at Logan Airport seeking information about her daughter Susan's murder after she left work as a Northwest baggage handler on Sept. 13, 1992.

Susan was fatally stabbed and beaten and her body stuffed in the trunk of her Tercel, which was found at a Revere auto-body shop. Marlene will hold her vigil between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. today and tomorrow, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, which says it continues to try to find the killer:

Police and prosecutors have chased countless leads during the past 18 years and continue to do so. The case remains open and we hope someday to identify and prosecute her killer or killers. We continue to urge anyone with information on her death -- no matter how small or peripheral it may seem -- to contact the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817. All tipsters may remain anonymous if they wish.

Pretty unbelievable that they have a motive and suspects in this case but can't get enough evidence to bring a case and are probably relying on one of the suspects to break or come forward. I hope they have preserved DNA that they can re-test and check for a match in the system - given that her murder was most likely connected to the baggage handler stolen credit card ring that 37 handlers were indicted for just a short time later, these suspects have probably already done time, are convicted felons, therefore DA can get warrants to have their DNA tested.

on the street at the time was that her BF was part of the stolen credit card ring operating out of Northwest (not Delta)and she was tortured and beaten to see if she had ratted. The scuttlebutt also placed the blame at the feet of a couple of out of towners, brought in to do the deed and then sent home. I feel terribly for her mother and every time I drove by that billboard on Rte 1, I couldn't help but wonder if anyone ever told the poor woman what every wiseguy in Revere seems to have known at the time.
