We [heart] NY! Actually, Boston

The city of Troy, NY has egg on its face.

According to the Times-Union newspaper, the city has been using an image of Boston, not Troy, on the "Welcome" page of the official city website as well as on its letterheads and business cards. (The photo shows a row of Commonwealth Avenue townhomes.)

The author of the article notes the irony. Back in the 1980's, Troy was a stand-in city for Boston during the filming of Henry James' "The Bostonians".

Below, the image in question. (Their website currently shows a "holiday scene" in place of the regular header.)

Troy? Hah!

What can we say, even other cities in other states wish they were as cool as us!

Haven't been to Troy but I spent a night in Saint John, New Brunswick and there are a number of blocks that were rebuilt after a fire in the 19th century by an architect from Boston (or something like that) and the resemblance is kind of cool. It's like walking around Boston...but everyone is nice...

(The Sauron-like flaming towers of the refineries across the Bay are a bit different though.)

If you watch the movie "The Other Guys", they show an obvious shot of the Boston skyline while the scene is set in NYC.

and I understand completely why the city would want to put an image of somewhere else on its letterhead.

One of the more depressed areas of generally depressed upstate New York.

Really? I thought Troy was supposed to be one of the few pleasant, walkable cities in the Albany area.

There's a reason it was nick-named "The Troy-let."

Too bad, because RPI is a great school that routinely beats down on my alma mater NU's hockey team.

I wonder if their rents are as high as Slummerville's.

It is one of the ugliest cities I have ever seen in America. There is somewhat of a cool downtown area down by the river but for the most part it is a run down city.

I don't know that I would call Troy ugly. Run down, for sure. But its buildings do actually resemble the ones in the photo, if generally more cracked and vine encrusted. Still, when the sun is setting and hundreds of crows are churning in the wind, and you can see all the way down across the city's glistening rooftops, there's nowhere prettier.
